John Goodwin is a managing member of Filament and a member of the firm’s investment committee. John’s work over three decades has touched nearly every aspect of private family wealth management including wealth structuring, preservation and transfer, philanthropy advising, and investment management. John brings special expertise and perspective to the firm’s philanthropic advisory practices by integrating tools and lessons learned as an estate planning lawyer, principal gifts fundraiser and wealth management strategist. He enjoys helping clients achieve their philanthropic goals with counsel that goes beyond a simple review of gift structures and touches on the deeply personal motivations that support large scale philanthropy. John received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Washington (Order of the Coif) and his BA (magna cum laude in Economics) from the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of the Washington State Bar. John is a founding board member of the Seattle Philanthropic Advisors Network. He currently chairs the Seattle University Planned Giving Advisory Committee and is a member of the President’s Campaign Steering Committee. John currently also chairs the Endowment and Planned Giving Committee of Seattle Preparatory School. He is a past Trustee of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and a past endowment and advisory board member of John F. Kennedy Catholic High School.
